Bike Board Deck setup

Set coupling height for the bike deck, roll a few empty metres in the yard, then record the first tiedown layout. Those opening checks matter on a light trailer where bike weight and board position can shift the nose load quickly.

Setup notes for Bike Board Deck

Before the Bike Board Deck leaves the yard, level the trailer behind the tow vehicle and make sure the plug, chain and latch are seated properly. Inspect tyre pressures, lamp lenses and wheel nuts, then do a short empty run with a full turn in each direction. On cold Highveld mornings around Germiston, grease, tyres and couplings often feel different to a midday departure.

Set the axle and load rating against what the deck will actually carry, whether that is one off-road bike, two commuters, or boards with light camping gear. Too little capacity leaves no margin for spares, fuel cans or rough patches on secondary roads. Keep the spare wheel accessible, and check that the jockey wheel is fully raised before heading out of the gate.

Take a clear photo of the hitch, safety chain and loaded deck once the first setup is complete. Add one image showing strap routing over the bikes or board mounts so the next driver can repeat the arrangement. A brief handover note with tyre size, coupling height and load position is more useful than a long general message.

Bike and board deck loading points

This deck works best when bike weight sits low and centred, with enough front bias for stable towing without overloading the coupling. Boards need secure padding and fixed contact points so they do not chatter against rails on corrugated sections. Where two axles are fitted, inspect each tyre and hub separately after the first stretch, especially on hot tar and dusty yard surfaces.

  • Check plug, lamps and reflectors first
  • Do one empty turn each way
  • Feel hubs after the first run
  • Park level with jockey wheel secured

Use this setup page together with the matching haul path and axle note when the tow vehicle sits high, low or carries extra rear load. If your hitch height falls outside the usual bakkie range, send the measurements through our contact form with the trailer name and intended cargo.

Signs the setup needs changing

Stop and reset the Bike Board Deck if the coupling knocks, the rear lamps cut out, or the load shifts during the first few kilometres. A different haul path can solve entry angle, ramp clearance or turning space before damage starts. Forcing one arrangement to suit every bike, board and yard usually creates more work at the next stop.

If the setup is handed over between branches, include the trailer name, tow vehicle used and the loading pattern that was tried first. Teams working from Clearwater, Cresta, Pavilion, Tyger Valley, Baywest, Mimosa and Riverside can then continue from the same measurements instead of repeating the initial checks.

Setup support from Sunnyrock

Check the Bike Board Deck setup name before sending hitch height, tie-down point, or deck length details through our contact form. Add the tow vehicle, expected bike count, and whether the trailer will work mainly around Sunnyrock, Germiston yards or on longer Gauteng road runs.
