Brake Assist Pack

Brake control for loaded decks

The Brake Assist Pack is for existing MultiTrailer decks that need stronger stopping control and a coupling setup that suits the trailer’s working mass. It matters on Gauteng yard moves, N3 descents and stop start runs where an unbraked or poorly matched setup can shove the tow vehicle under load. Fitment is done at Germiston, with the pack selected to suit the deck and its GVM band.

Begin with the deck you own, the axle arrangement under it, and what it normally carries. A bike trailer, utility deck and plant hauler do not use the same coupling height, brake hardware or adjustment baseline. This pack is specified around the trailer’s actual job so the overrun action, cable routing and hitch position make sense on South African roads and yard surfaces.

After fitment, do a short brake test on level ground before the first loaded trip. Check coupling latch engagement, breakaway attachment and light operation with the trailer connected. Recheck wheel nut torque and brake response after the first proper run, especially if the deck has stood for a while.

What the pack changes

You get a brake and coupling upgrade matched to an existing MultiTrailer deck rather than a generic parts swap. That can include the correct coupling rating, brake actuation setup and basic adjustment notes for the trailer’s axle layout. See Hauls if you also need the trailer paired to a specific transport job or route type.

Before booking fitment, compare your current deck details with the note under Axles so the axle count and load pattern are clear. Send photos of the drawbar, coupling area and identification plate through our contact form if the trailer has been modified or repurposed. Include the usual cargo, tow vehicle and where the trailer spends most of its time, whether that is yard work, regional road use or mixed farm access.

  • Coupling rating matched to deck mass
  • Brake setup selected for axle layout
  • Post-fitment brake and light check

Conditions that affect braking

Highveld dust, coastal air and repeated standing time all change how trailer brake components behave. Cable movement, coupling wear and light corrosion can alter feel long before a deck looks rough from the outside. A correctly matched brake assist setup still needs routine checks against GVM, tyre condition and actual loading practice.

Rough yard entries can knock adjustment out, and steep ramps can exaggerate poor coupling height between trailer and tow vehicle. Coastal users should rinse grime from exposed brake and coupling areas more often, while inland operators should watch dust build-up around moving parts. If the trailer works hard on short trips, separate the brake test from the lighting check so heat and loading do not mask a setup issue.
